We may live in an era of high-tech entertainment but crane games are as popular as ever, writes Mike Dawber.

Cranes

Crane games are the great perennials of the family entertainment sector. Despite the ongoing development and popularity of high-tech games and attractions with virtual reality, immersive attractions and other technology all making inroads into the sector, crane games remain a staple of arcades the world over.

While they were invented in the US, it was in Japan in the 1980s where they really took off, with games offering prizes like plush toys and other merchandise rather than just sweets.
