An England victory in the European Championship final on Sunday would cost William Hill “well into” the tens of millions of pounds, the operator has revealed.

The evoke-owned brand said England were “heavily backed” on its platform as pre-tournament favourites before the tournament in Germany at odds of 4/1.
William Hill said it has concurrently offered a Top Price Guarantee throughout the championship.
Lee Phelps, a spokesperson for the operator, said: “As we have been Top Price Guarantee for the duration of the tournament and before it started, an England win would cost us deep into seven figures.”
Phelps confirmed William Hill will also “lose a lot” if England captain Harry Kane ends the tournament as top scorer, which would be the “most expensive result” in that market for the operator, it said.
William Hill said an England victory over Spain would trigger “one of the biggest football payouts of all time for the bookies.”
“Though it would be great for football to finally come home, it looks set to cost the UK betting industry well into the tens of millions of pounds,” Phelps added. “We’re expecting to see historically high turnover on Sunday, and with a lot of that money set to rest on the Three Lions’ shoulders, it will be very expensive.”
