The partnership between British bookmaker William Hill and major Spanish operator Codere is over.
The bookmaker has withdrawn from the arrangement after regulatory barriers made expansion difficult. The joint venture was named Victoria Apuestas and it opened its first outlet in Madrid in April 2008, now working in nearly 100 locations within Madrid and the Basque regions. Hill said that its plans to grow the business had been hampered by the slow granting of local regulatory consents and the slower-than-expected regulatory changes within other regions.
