The National Voluntary Self-Exclusion Program (NVSEP) has expanded its US offering to players in California following the announcement of an initial four-state roll-out.

The technology will work alongside the state’s own program, which includes over 60 card rooms, as opposed to working with California’s tribes and their own respective self-exclusion programs.

The programme, which is being facilitated by idPair’s tech, will roll out in California in August at the same time as in Colorado, Iowa, Michigan and Tennessee.

Robert Jacobson, executive director of the California Council on Problem Gambling, said attempting to self-exclude in person “can have a powerful triggering effect, potentially leading to a relapse or deterring the individual from self-excluding entirely.”

He said doing so remotely “can be a great alternative; however, it requires that the enrolment form be notarised to verify the identity of the person submitting the form.”

“NVSEP’s offer of free notarisation services for those enrolling in California’s self-exclusion program removes a significant barrier, potentially having a tremendously positive impact on countless Californians dealing with gambling addiction by making one of our most vital prevention and recovery tools more accessible,” Jackson added.
