A new 92,000sq.ft scratchcard logistics facility has been opened in Warrington, UK by Scientific Games to serve The National Lottery retailers. In time, Allwyn plans to convert The National Lottery’s technology to Scientific Games’ Symphony enterprise gaming system, including more than 40,000 gaming terminals.

Allwyn’s 10-year licence as operator of the UK’s National Lottery came into effect yesterday, the first time the lottery has changed ownership since its inception 30 years ago.

“We commend Allwyn on its vision for growing The National Lottery and substantially increasing returns to National Lottery-funded projects as a result,” said Michael Conforti, president of international and strategic accounts for Scientific Games.

“We’ve long-awaited this moment, made possible through a close, working partnership. Together, we’ve proven our ability to navigate challenges necessary to begin delivering sustainable and responsible growth to the UK National Lottery on time and across channels.”

Andrew Rhodes, chief executive of the Gambling Commission, said of Allwyn’s takeover:

“The National Lottery celebrates its 30th birthday this year and in that time it’s made a huge impact on the UK. Everyone at the Commission is committed to moving forwards with Allwyn and government to make the fourth licence a big success for players and for the good causes that rely upon it up and down the country.”
