In the US, the Nevada Gaming Commission has approved amendments to two regulations that would allow the use of pre-paid access instruments in conjunction with approved wagering accounts.
This technological advancement has some critics concerned that easier access to cash in a casino would worsen problem gambling. The amendments take effect immediately and technical standards will be published soon to guide companies. The changes approved by regulators would give slot players some of the same access to funds enjoyed by race and sportsbook gamblers and online poker players. The amended regulations enable state Gaming Control Board chairman AG Burnett to administratively approve the use of equipment.
New Jersey already allows the use of pre-paid access cards. The company that petitioned the Gaming Control Board for regulatory changes, Las Vegas-based Sightline Interactive, has contracts with three companies there.
