Atlantic City casinos will not totally ban smoking, but it will be prohibited on the gaming floor.

The New Jersey City Council passed a compromise law on Wednesday by six votes to three that will affect the 11 casinos in Atlantic City, due to take effect April 15.

It prohibits smoking on 75 per cent of a casino floor but requires that 25 per cent of the floor space be set aside as smoking areas.

The council had considered a total ban on casino smoking, but backed down under pressure from the casino industry amid claims of a projected 20 per cent drop revenue and the loss of 3,400 jobs.
