A desperate decline in revenues from gambling in Macau has been reported by the territory’s authorities.
The DICJ (Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau) figures show that gross monthly revenue in January was down by 11.3 per cent. From February onwards it dipped steeply, by 87.8 per cent in February, 79.7 per cent in March, 96.8 per cent in April, 93.2 per cent in May and 97 per cent in June.
For the first half of the year, the drop was HK$33.7m, compared with HK$149.5m.
The curbs on crossing the border from mainland China are the principal cause of the constant straight drop in revenues, as the fight against Covid-19 continues to take its toll. The forecast is for GGR in July to fall by 80 per cent and for the full year by 46 per cent.
