UK trade association Bacta met with DCMS officials this week to request that the government provides clearer guidance around the introduction of the statutory levy, particularly around the transition from the current approach to the new one.

The Gambling Commission has provided some insight on the implementation of the levy, which is currently working its way through Parliament.

The Commission said that the current situation requires operators to make annual financial contributions to a list of research, prevention and treatment organisations.

“This requirement will be removed close to the introduction of the government’s statutory levy (expected to come into force on April 6) as it will become obsolete.

“We will notify licensees of the date of implementation as soon as the parliamentary process is complete. These changes illustrate our commitment to ensuring gambling is fair and open by improving consumer empowerment and choice.”
