Genting Malaysia saw revenue increase by three per cent in Q2 this year, progress the company attributes largely to its takings in the leisure and hospitality sector.

Revenue for the company in Q2 was MYR2,291.6m (US$536m) compared with MYR2,234.6m ($522m) at the same time last year.

The company saw an increase in revenue of MYR95.9m ($22m) from leisure and hospitality business in Malaysia. An increase in revenue from leisure and hospitality business in the US and Bahamas by MYR33.3m ($7.8m) was also seen, mainly due to the strengthening of the dollar against the ringgit.

An improved commission structure with the New York state authority on Resorts World Casino New York City gaming operations offset by lower revenue from Resorts World Bimini also contributed to the higher revenue.

However, the company also saw a decrease in revenue from the casino sector in the UK by MYR93m ($21.7m), which it attributes to overall lower volume of business and lower hold percentage from its premium gaming segment, as well as a weakening of the pound against the ringgit.

Excluding the impact of foreign exchange movement, revenue from casino business in the UK decreased by 15 per cent.
