Harrah's Entertainment has been lobbying the Irish government about changes to gambling legislation in the country.
At the same time, the operator has been talking about plans to build a €350m resort casino in Ireland, creating 2,000 jobs.
The move comes at a time when the government is considering introducing legislation to legalise casinos.
Harrah’s has also pointed out to the Irish government that the casinos in its resorts usually take up less than 10 per cent of the total floor space.
It also said that such a venture would include a 200 to 300-room four-star hotel and other leisure facilities.
With the opening of a new national convention centre in 2010 and the need to introduce legislation to cover existing private gambling clubs, several major international casino operators have been looking at the possibility of setting up in Ireland.
