A group backing a casino for Warren County, Iowa, US, has presented more than 3,000 signatures to officials to get the issued on a referendum ballot.

Warren County Citizens for Good Jobs and community leaders turned over more than 3,300 signatures to the Warren County Auditor to get a referendum on the ballot for May 7.

The group said they were proud of the effort to get several thousand signatures on the streets, in stores and in homes - a significant accomplishment in a county of just 50,000 people.

The project calls for a new casino, 150-room hotel, events centre and bowling centre.  The casino would be located in north-west Warren County.
