The Minns government will work with advertising contract holders across the state’s owned and controlled transport assets to ensure they comply with the ruling.

Internal and external advertising on trains as well as promotions on metro, buses and light rail will be outlawed.

Advertising contract holders will also not be allowed to allow gambling companies to promote at train stations and in ferry terminals.

New South Wales’ transport sector boasts 3,711 urban buses and 798 advertising boards in Sydney train stations.

Forty-nine road-facing digital billboards and 76 trams across the Tangara train fleet will be covered by the move.

Minister for Transport Jo Haylen said: “With over 3,500 buses, close to 800 advertising assets at train stations, as well as advertising on light rail and trains, Transport’s advertising contracts are vast.

“Because of the scale it will take some time to implement this change, but we will be working closely with our contract partners over the next 12 months to get this done.”

Minister for Gaming and Racing David Harris said: “Removing gambling advertising from public transport is another demonstration of the Minns Labor Government’s commitment to reducing gambling harm in NSW.”
