A darts player has been banned from the sport for eight years after an investigation involving Great Britain’s Gambling Commission found him guilty of match-fixing and betting on darts.

Prakash Jiwa has also been ordered to pay £17,741.46 in costs after the incidents which took place in the Modus Super Series.

The Gambling Commission’s Sports Betting Intelligence Unit supported the probe which centred on four matches between February and June 2023, each of which Jira lost.

He has now been suspended until November 2031.

John Pierce, the Gambling Commission’s director of enforcement, said: “All betting customers in Britain should have confidence that bets placed with licensed gambling businesses are on markets that are fair and free from betting-related corruption.

“Our Sports Betting Intelligence Unit works closely with partners such as the Darts Regulation Authority to support sporting integrity investigations and combat match-fixing.

“This decision sends a clear message that betting-related corruption in sport will not be tolerated.”
