European aircraft manufacturer Airbus is holding talks with a number of potential customers interested in converting its A380 superjumbo - the world's biggest commercial passenger plane - into a flying casino.

"We have had interests from customers who would like to do something like [casinos]," said David Velupillai, marketing director for Airbus’s executive and private aviation division.

Airbus, based in Toulouse, France, would not disclose the identity of the interested customers, nor whether they included casino operators, but Velupillai said a fully fitted casino on the airliner could be delivered as early as 2012.

"Of course the biggest attraction of the A380 is that it’s got 50 per cent more floor space than the Boeing 747. If you have to do something like that, you have got the floor space that will allow you to do this," he concluded.
