InterGame takes a look at the mixed fortunes of the Australasian market.

A STRONG dollar – either Australian or New Zealand, they are aligned in the international currency markets – has continued to work well for the operators Down Under. A strong currency means that their exports are badly affected, but as nearly everything that goes into their coin-operated games business is imported, they wield a strong buying power.

The story isn’t quite as good for the gambling business, which dominates the public’s discretionary spend in those countries. There are some significant manufacturing businesses in Australia specialising in casino slots. Even that effect, however, is toned down by the fact that companies like Aristocrat build elsewhere as well as in Sydney.
