The Spanish AWP market has been shrinking in recent years as the country’s economic woes have hit consumer spending. With signs of a recovery on the way, does the sector have a bright future?

IN the third quarter of this year, Spain emerged from an economic recession that many analysts predicted would see the country request a bailout from its fellow EU members.

There are signs that while some of its neighbours are stalling, Spain is in fact beginning to pull its troubled finances around. Manufacturing is up, so too are exports and foreign investment. It is hoped that an easing of inflation will help boost consumer confidence and spending in the months ahead, further aiding the country’s recovery.

Furthermore, the restoration of consumer confidence, which is no doubt tied to the country’s rate of unemployment that has hovered around the 25 per cent mark for some time now, may bring a timely boost to the country’s gaming and amusement sector. A report on Spaniards’ perceptions of games of chance was carried out earlier this year by Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in collaboration with the Codere Foundation and the Centre for Gambling Policy and Legislation Studies.
