The Main Event Entertainment chain of family entertainment centres in the US was once again the “standout” performer within parent company Ardent Leisure’s portfolio in the nine months to March 31.

The Australian group’s revenue for the period stood at AU$444.9m (£231.7m), up 17.2 per cent on the previous year. Total divisional EBITDA increased 10.9 per cent to $101.6m

“Main Event was again the standout division, with the continued strong constant centre performance and exceptional performance from new centres,” said group chairman Neil Balnaves.

During the nine-month period, Main Event’s revenues jumped 58 per cent to US$103.91m (£68.7m), while EBITDA increased 63.7 per cent to $27.05m

“Our US business has continued to deliver exceptional revenue and earnings results, reflecting strong constant centre performance and the success of new centres opened over the past nine months,” Balnaves said.

The 20th Main Event location opened in April in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the company is planning to unveil a further seven new centres in the 2016 financial year. Group CEO Deborah Thomas confirmed that negotiations are under way for an additional eight sites the following year.

Meanwhile, Ardent’s bowling division, which centres on the AMF Bowling and Kingpin Bowling brands in its home market, reported a 1.9 per cent increase in revenues to AU$87.36m.
