Gaming machine gross gaming yield reached £2.4bn between April 2013 and March 2014, figures from the UK Gambling Commission show.

According to the Commission, GGY from category B1, B2, B3, B4, C and D machines was up from £2.34bn in the corresponding period a year earlier. The bulk of this, £1.57bn, was generated by B2 machines.

The total number of these machines was also up, from 164,754 to 165,448.

The figures do not tell the whole story, however, as the Gambling Commission does not license pubs, clubs, working men’s clubs or family entertainment centres operating under a local authority permit.

There could be as many as 60,000 additional category C machines located in pubs across the country.
