The state of Kentucky is to receive $15m in settlement from a lawsuit it filed against bwin.party in 2010, governor Steve Beshear (pictured) has announced.

The sum follows a $6m settlement announced last month, resulting from federal lawsuits against online gambling companies.

Kentucky filed the bwin.party lawsuit in August 2010, alleging the company had illegally collected bets from gamblers in the state. The earlier $6m settlement arose from two federal lawsuits in Maryland and New York. Kentucky still has an ongoing 2008 lawsuit against more than 140 online gambling websites.

Beshear is an opponent of online gambling, having said that internet gambling undermines Kentucky's horse racetracks and charitable gambling.
