Peer-to-peer software provider Mahjong Logic is planning the largest ever online mahjong tournament.

The inaugural World Championship of Online Mahjong will take place from November 19 to December 9, featuring two main events using Riichi and Hong Kong rules with a combined prize pool.

Players can enter the competition either by qualifying through online satellite tournaments or buying in directly to the main events. The WCOOM tournament will be played in shoot-out format with each tournament divided into successive rounds.

The top ranked players on each table will progress to the next round with the number of tables and players gradually decreasing until the final round which will see the winner come from the final four players at the last table.

Jonas Alm, CEO for the Isle of Man-based Mahjong Logic, said the online mahjong community had been asking for an event like this for some time.

“Our software has been fine tuned to provide the very best online experience for the participants and all our licensees will be offering this tournament to their players,” he said.
