In order to secure a Spanish i-gaming licence, 888 has concluded discussions with the country’s authorities.

888, which last month posted its highest revenue ever, has confirmed that it ended talks with the Spanish authorities regarding gaming duty which may be payable in respect of operations between January 2009 and May 2011.

Following these discussions, the group has completed a self-assessment tax return and made a one-off payment of €7.4m in addition to surcharges and interest expected to be up to €1.3m, all from its cash resources.

888 has been paying gaming duty in respect of its Spanish operations since May 2011.

Following this payment, the group believes that it has fulfilled all requirements necessary to receive a Spanish i-gaming licence, with awards set to begin at the start of June.
