Iowa has become the latest US state to take a step toward the regulation of online poker.

A bill passed the Iowa Senate yesterday with a vote of 29-20, with bipartisan support, said a report on Part time Poker.

Before it becomes law the bill must survive a vote by the Iowa House and it must be signed by Governor Terry Branstad.

Nevada has already approved the regulation of online poker and is moving forward with plans to allow it at an intrastate level, while a number of other states are considering bills that would regulate the game.

An online gambling bill introduced by Mississippi last month, however, has fallen at the first hurdle and failed to make it out of a House of Representatives committee.
