The demand for qualified, skilled casino workers is on the rise as new casino projects are given the green light, according to the National Gaming Academy in the UK.

The NGA has been delivering professional qualifications to the gaming industry since 2006 and has seen an increase in the number of qualified workers needed by casino managers.

“We’ve seen a steady demand for both qualified staff and on the job training over the past few years, but we expect this to peak when the new licences which have been granted translate into actual casinos,” NGA coordinator Colleen McLaughlin told InterGaming.

This is already beginning to have a knock-on effect for the Academy. Rank has recently opened a casino in Stockton-on-Tees and plans to open a new casino in Oldbury before the end of the year. Elsewhere, Genting’s latest casinos will open in Derby in November and Sheffield next year.

The NGA also anticipates high demand for skilled workers from the winners of the Newham and Milton Keynes licences.

Elaine De Christie, regional gaming academy manager at North Warwickshire and Hinckley College, said with so many new locations opening up in the next two years, the industry will undoubtedly be seeking more people with gaming experience.

“With an average staff turnover between three and five per cent monthly, a casino with 50 gaming staff at four per cent turnover will require two new staff per month,” she said. “In short, there is a constant demand for NGA provision."
