The National Law Commission of India this week confirmed proposals that could lead to the legalisation of sports betting in the country, reports focusgn.com.

In July, India’s Supreme Court recommended the legalisation of sports betting and also to include the Board of Control for Cricket in India in the Right to Information Act, which would give Indian citizens the right to request information from a public authority about national activities.

Once the Law Commission issues an official legislation project, Indian stakeholders would be informed to develop the market.

“We are examining all legal aspects of betting in sports,” said Balbir Singh Chauhan, chairman at Law Commission of India.

“Once we make up our mind and prepare a skeleton in what direction we should proceed, and what legal problems may arise, we will write to all the stakeholders,” he said.
