A petition calling for direct flights between southern Spain and Malta, mostly for use by workers in the online gaming industry, has attracted more than 1,300 signatures, reports Times of Malta.

Malta i-gaming sector backing flight

The petition, which currently has 1,313 signatories and aimed initially at Norwegian Air, states: “Each year, professionals (mainly in i-gaming) lose hundreds of work hours travelling between Malta and the south of Spain (Malaga) and/or Gibraltar.

“This often involves very long lay-overs in foreign airports 1,000km away, sometimes flying overnight, not to mention being expensive and massively inconvenient.

"We would like Norwegian Air to provide at least one scheduled flight per week (two would be better) between Malaga and Malta and/or Gibraltar and Malta.”
