The platform is available only to bettors in the small north-west state of Sikkim, with access blocked for the rest of India. The centre was opened by Indian cricketing legend Kapil Dev.

The Sikkim government has authorised four gaming and lottery licences – to Golden Gaming, along with the Sugal and Damani Group, Future Gaming Group and Essel Group’s Playwin.

Manoj Sethi, director of Golden Gaming, said: “The Sikkim venture is the first such initiative in the country, and we hope that other states also follow our unique model and legalise online sports betting too.”
