Newcomers to the G2E trade show this year were Best Gaming Technology, seeking to make new contacts in North America from its European base.

“We have a full range of US sports available and want to make our presence felt in the sports betting business here,” said the company’s William Weir.

“We see an opportunity in Nevada opening up initially, but all over the US they are using an antiquated system for sports betting. The technology has not changed in 15 years!”

He added: “If you go into any of the big casinos you can see why so much money is now going into online sports betting. There are no self-service devices there and they provide the choices players need.”

Weir said that the US sport book business in land-based locations was operating “with handcuffs on”. He added that when regulation of online gaming comes the industry will regulate a land-based operation over an online operation first because there is “always the feeling that you can walk into a building and control it more effectively.”

BGT, he said, controls over €1bn in bets every year for its partners and is involved in every sport in the world.
