THERE’S change afoot in the gambling and betting industry: higher overheads and tighter industry regulation are causing a surge of mergers and acquisition activity across the sector.
Among the big players, Ladbrokes has recently announced the acquisition of competitor Gala Coral Group, which if it goes ahead will form the largest high-street bookmaker in the UK, “Ladbrokes Coral”, and online gambling firms GVC Holdings and bwin.party Digital Entertainment continue to be in talks regarding the terms of GVC’s offer for Bwin, which has also been the subject of an offer by 888 Holdings.
