One of three bills proposing online gambling legalisation in the US state of California has been suspended.

Bill AB9, introduced by assemblyman Mike Gatto, has fallen by the wayside leaving AB167 and AB431, proposed by assemblymen Reggie Jones-Sawyer and Adam Gray respectively, as the remaining proposals.

Gatto withdrew his bill saying that he had been unable to find agreement from a range of stakeholders on the structure and timetable for his proposed online poker legislation in the state.

In a statement he said: “Over the past three years, I have met with representatives from nearly every software provider, card room, gaming tribe, racetrack and internet poker operator who has an opinion on the subject.

“I gave my word to both supporters and opponents of AB9 that my goal was consensus, and that I would not move forward with anything that achieved less than that.”
