MERGERS and acquisitions are always big news in the gaming and betting industry and the last few months have seen some eye-catching headlines.

In particular, entertainment giant the Gauselmann Group confirmed its acquisition of Sceptre Leisure, the UK’s second-largest AWP machines operator; one of the UK’s largest bookmakers, William Hill was frustrated in its approach to buy online gaming group 888 Holdings in a deal which could have been worth more than £700m; and online operator, bwin.party Digital Entertainment is, at the time of writing, in protracted discussions with various undisclosed suitors that may wish to acquire some or all of its business.
