The gross win across the group’s three online brands – coral.co.uk, Gala websites and Eurobet.it – was £84.3m; an increase of 37 per cent compared with Q1 2014.

The year-on-year increase was in spite of “adverse football results” which had an impact of £5.3m on the online business in Q1, compared with £3.8m a year earlier. In addition, the implementation of point-of-consumption regulation in the UK in December 2014 cost Gala Coral £3.6m in the quarter, the company said.

Active accounts were up 49 per cent at coral.co.uk with spend-per-head 17 per cent higher, year on year. Eurobet.it actives were also up significantly, increasing 39 per cent compared with 2014.

Mobile represented 61 per cent of both sports and gaming stakes in Q1, an increase of 13 per cent in sports and 11 per cent in gaming from 2014.
