The Czech finance ministry plans to permit foreign-owned i-gaming companies to operate in the country under a new gambling law, reports Reuters.

The $6bn Czech market is dominated by five domestic bookmakers, with only operators with a land-based retail presence permitted to offer online gaming services.

The proposal would legalise foreign online betting companies that register their operations, also allowing them to be regulated and taxed.

If approved, the legislation would come into effect in 2016.
