According to the company, the Yes vote has continued to drift in recent days and started the day with a 19 per cent chance to win.

Betfair spokesman James Midmer said: “There has been steady support for No since this market was created and this has accelerated into the final week of the campaign.

“The markets always react in real time so whatever happens this evening, they will be well worth watching,”

£11.5m has currently been matched in the Majority Winner market, with 85 per cent of this traded volume being matched on No.

Outside of the main market, Exchange bettors are undecided as to the percentage of the Yes vote, with 40-45 per cent and 45-50 per cent both prevalent in betting.

However punters heavily favoured a turnout in excess of 75 per cent with this trading at 1.06, the equivalent of a 94 per cent chance.
