By the end of the first half of this year, the bookmaker’s mobile business had contributed over half of digital staking. Mobile growth was the “engine behind the acceleration” in the rate of growth of digital overall, it said.

In the second quarter, mobile sportsbook staking growth was 114 per cent and overall digital sportsbook staking was up around 30 per cent. The first six months of 2014 saw migration of sports betting from desktop to mobile continue.

Ladbrokes said the encouraging signs in Mobile sportsbook performance seen at the start of the year continued throughout the period. Mobile sportsbook continued to grow with amounts staked accounting for 46 per cent of sportsbook and during the World Cup grew to about 63 per cent.

At the end of the first quarter, Ladbrokes made the transition to Playtech casino products. During the first six months of the year, gaming revenue was down 18.3 per cent, reflecting anticipated operational disruption resulting from the transition to new products and new back office systems.

Digital net revenue for the period totalled £105m, compared with the £90.8m, recorded in the first half of 2013. Overall group net revenue stood at £577.8m, up from £568.5m.
