Online gaming compliance specialist Dictao has welcomed the European Commission decision to recognise the electronic monitoring system SAFE as the most effective for protecting consumers.

The EC recommendation on principles for protecting online gambling service consumers and players, and for preventing minors from gambling online, is not legally enforceable but provides influential guidance for member states.

Of the consumer protection measures considered, an electronic monitoring system – or SAFE – was deemed the most effective solution for meeting consumer protection objectives.

In response, Gabriel Dubois, Dictao’s head of i-gaming operations, said: “Near real-time electronic monitoring systems are a best practice, not only in the online gambling industry but also in the financial services industry and the government sector.

“They provide reliable evidence of digital transactions and protect all parties involved. The EC study is an endorsement of the technical requirements already enforced by the most advanced gaming authorities in Europe.”
