The European Commission is set to demand that i-gaming adverts carry warning messages similar to cigarette packets, according to a report seen by Reuters.

The EU executive will make its recommendation to improve controls of the i-gaming industry next week, with a focus on dealing with compulsive gambling.

The potential warning messages i-gaming companies may be urged to consider include the chances of winning and losing, information on the risk of becoming addicted and assistance for compulsive gambling.

While not legally binding, the recommendations may persuade countries in the European Union to re-evaluate the rules currently in place.

According to the EU, i-gaming is the fastest growing service activity in the EU, expanding at a rate of 15 per cent a year.
