As the US horse racing season enters one of its busiest phases, Sportech has drawn attention to legal warnings issued by the Connecticut attorney general last month, reports courant.com.

Welcome to Connecticut

Sportech Venues operates 15 off-track-betting and sports bars in the state and operates MyWinners.com, the only website permitted by the state to offer pari-mutuel online wagers.

In May, the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection and attorney general George Jepsen sent cease-and-desist letters to out-of-state online outlets that are not licensed to take wagers in Connecticut or to take wagers from residents of the state.

"No other site is regulated here or pays the tax that the state should be receiving," Ted Taylor, president of Sportech Venues, said in a statement.

"Our operations are closely monitored by the Department of Consumer Protection, thereby ensuring that the highest standards of player protection are in place for local residents."
