The Bulgarian State Gambling Commission has approved an application from PokerStars for an online gaming licence.
In a statement released through its website, PokerStars said it would now work towards “finalising the technical requirements for starting operations under the licence and serving the Bulgarian online poker market.”
PokerStars, the world’s largest poker site, also reiterated the company’s commitment to be among the first to enter regulated markets when licences become available.
Eric Hollreiser, head of corporate communications at Poker Stars, said the operator is delighted with the approval. “Bulgaria is full of promise,” he said.
“Poker is extremely popular in the country and recently we have seen some notable results from Bulgarian players.”
