Federbet, the organisation of European casino owners, i-gaming operators and bookmakers, has released a statement detailing a “very strong internet attack” that took place last weekend and was aimed at European bookmakers.

The statement, from Federbet’s Paola Langella, said the attack was “unique and very strong,” calling it one of the most significant such attacks “of the last 15 years.” The resulting blackout affected operators in England, Austria, Malta and Italy, Federbet said.

“The operators affiliated to Federbet reacted immediately, protecting all the personal information of the users and so avoiding any damage to databases. Federbet will continue to support its members and provide as much information as possible to the investigating authorities,” the statement continued.

One online operator affected by the attack was sports betting specialist PlanetWin365. In a statement, PlanetWin365 said: “We thank our users and partners for the support they have given us in such a difficult moment.

“Thanks to them and to the commitment of Federbet, we were able to counter this onslaught by protecting sensitive data and returning [to full operation].”
