Billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson is escalating his feud with industry rivals over the future of gambling, reports The Washington Post.

Adelson, chairman and CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, wants to persuade the US congress to ban online betting, claiming the practice is “a danger to society and could tarnish the industry’s traditional business model.”

The Washington Post says that, to make his point, Adelson is preparing a public campaign to portray online gambling as a danger to children, the poor and others who could be exploited by easy access to internet betting.

In January, Adelson plans to launch the Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling, which, it is reported, will include advocates for children and “others who are considered vulnerable to the temptations and potential harms of online betting.”

Adelson is said to be “intensely focused” on the coming battle and “talks about it every day with his staff.” He reportedly has “about two dozen” experts working on the issue.
