Fred Done, the Betfred founder and chairman, who famously paid out on Manchester United winning the Premier League in 1998 – only for Arsenal to triumph by a single point – has again backed United for the title.

Football fan Done told InterGame: “I’ve got two hats - a bookmaker’s hat and a fan’s hat. All the money as a bookmaker has come in for two teams – Chelsea and Manchester City.

“The biggest single bet I’ve taken is for £350,000 on Manchester City to win the league.”

Done feels changes at Manchester United have influenced the betting, but still fancies his local club to prosper. “I think the [new manager] ‘David Moyes factor’ means the money’s not there for United but I also believe they have every chance. I do know that Moyes works them very hard – perhaps even more so than the previous regime.

“I think it’s only between the three,” continued Done. “My outsider would be Tottenham. I’ve taken a lot of very big money – I’m talking hundreds of thousands from one source – on Spurs to win one of the League Cup or FA Cup or the Europa League.

“I think Spurs will finish ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool but the top three will be United, Chelsea and City. If I had to pick one I would pick United.”

So: United, City, Chelsea, Spurs. You heard it here first. Although it is worth noting that Done also paid out early on a Manchester United title win in 2012 – only to see arch rivals City scoop the top spot with the final kick of the season.

Fred Done was speaking to InterGame at the launch of Inspired Gaming’s new Eclipse cabinet at Betfred in London’s Fenchurch Street.
