“THE future’s not set. There’s no fate but what we make for ourselves.”

Terminator 2: Judgment Day soon became an all-time classic movie; a staple in DVD collections around the world and acclaimed as one of the best sci-fi action films of all time.

A sequel to James Cameron’s 1984 cult hit The Terminator, Terminator 2 was released July 1991, on Independence Day weekend in the US, and over that weekend accounted for more than half the ticket sales sold in North American cinemas. Its debut was record breaking - box office sales were smashed and the film became the highest grossing film of all time upon release. Sales to date amass to more than $500m.

Moreover, it wasn’t only a hit with cinema-goers. The movie received worldwide acclaim, particularly for its extensive and innovative use of computer-generated imagery and other emerging technologies to create the most realistic of scenes and characters. This was formally recognised through four Academy Awards and two Baftas, including for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.

Its enduring legacy is rare. When we signed on the dotted line with Studiocanal to secure the rights to the film for an online slot, we knew we had a lot of work to do to construct a game that did the brand justice.

The challenge was set. At Microgaming, we like a challenge and this is one that we definitely enjoyed. So, how did we take this legendary film and create an online slot that reflected the very nature of what made the movie so successful in the first place? In short, we embraced the brand to the fullest extent; we studied the film, examined the characters and dissected every component.
