A New Jersey senate panel yesterday approved measure S9890 that, if carried forward into law, would allow international online gambling operators to be based and licensed in the US state.

Sen Ray Lesniak

Put forward by Senator Ray Lesniak (D), the measure would require the companies to be located in Atlantic City and partner with casinos there.

Under the legislation, the operators and their partners could offer online gaming in other jurisdictions or states where it is legal – provided there was an agreement between the two territories.

In a statement, Lesniak (pictured) said: “This could help make New Jersey the leader in online gaming, across the country and around the world.

“We could be the ‘Silicon Valley’ for high-tech gaming.”
