There have been fresh calls for new spending limits for gaming machines in Australian clubs.

Nick Xenophon, an independent Senator who has led a campaign against video poker machines, has called for the Australian Capital Territory to reduce the limit the maximum bet per spin on “pokies” from AU$10 to $1.

Appearing before an ACT legislative assembly inquiry into the future of the clubs industry, Xenophon also argued that losses on such machines ought to be limited to $120 per hour, instead of the current $1,200 limit.
