Bob Rudd has a broken pelvis and rib following a crash in Portsmouth on Thursday during the annual BACTA Biker event.

“It was a serious but not lifethreatening accident,” said fellow fundraiser Dave Orton to the Burton Mail. The BACTA Bikers were taking part in a  700-mile ride to and back from Normandy, France, taking in all five D-day beaches in aid of Help for Heroes having previously collected more than £150,000 for charities including Meningitis UK, Macmillan Cancer Support and the Royal National Institute for the Deaf since the 1990s.

The other riders on the trip were Andy and Gemma Murden, Tony Slater, Nik and Elaine Novak, Phil Silver, Mike Clokie, Graham Sharp and Murray Macdougall, who rode from Edinburgh to take part. The team have raised almost £4,000 for the charity this year and donations can be made on www.bmycharity.com/bactabikers
