The plan to build a £3.2bn entertainment resort in Surrey, UK, has been rocked by news that the developers and Paramount Pictures have severed their relationship

London Resort Company Holdings was building the project, which was to have a park with five themed zones and hotel accommodation for 5,000 people, only 20 minutes by rail from central London.

Despite the split with Paramount, LRCH still plans to go ahead with the project and it could open by 2022, although the company would need another development partner to add a theme. The original plans were for rides themed around various Hollywood names such as Mission Impossible and Transformers.

LRCH CEO Humphrey Percy is quoted as confirming the split with Paramount and thanked the film-maker for its work on the project ,which began in August 2013. He said that the news did not affect the timing of the company’s planning submission that is due in November.

“We are working closely with the local authorities, landowners and local community, as well as our other stakeholders and we very much look forward to showing our plans to the public as part of our final stage of consultation prior to submitting later this year."

It was originally believed that the park, which was to have been built on an old landfill site on the Swanscombe Peninsula, would create 33,000 jobs.
