Over 100 events have been held so far, attracting two million visitors, and up to 20,000 new jobs have been created in the country’s growing entertainment sector.

Saudi has some of the best family entertainment centres in the Middle East, yet still does not permit cinemas. This is going to change, however, says Ahmed Al-Khateeb, chairman of the Entertainment Authority, which has been tasked with implementing the Vision 2030 strategy.

Al-Khateeb emphasised that when cinemas were allowed to open they would conform to the country’s traditional values.

This week the authority used 300 drones to create a light show in Jeddah welcoming the start of Ramadan with a greeting in Arabic in the skies. It was the first time that the technique has been used in the MENA region.
