Operators of family entertainment centres in Borneo may lose their ability to introduce gambling elements to their locations.

According to the Borneo Post, the country’s relevant ministry, Local Government and Housing, is forcing local authorities to stop issuing new licences for entertainment centres.

The reason given for the decision was that the government was studying the impact of internet gambling. But, in an interview with the newspaper, Minister Dr Sim Kui Hian said that there were too many cases of operators abusing their licences to turn the FECs into gambling dens.

He said: “What is the purpose of having family entertainment centres when they are filled with machines that are turned into gambling slot machines?”
