Work is expected to start next year - and be completed by 2022 - on a huge, new “entertainment city”, south of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Vast ‘entertainment city’ for Saudi?

The venue is set to cover 334sq.km of desert and will feature sport, cultural and recreational facilities, including a Six Flags theme park and a water park.

Most of the investment will come from the kingdom’s Public Investment Fund and the remainder from private investors. The announcement reveals the outcome of talks that had been going on for nearly a year between Six Flags and the Saudi government on the building of a park in the country.

Six Flags wants to build three parks in Saudi Arabia, each at a cost of between US$300m and $500m.
